Don Pentz, RCA, Peer Gallery
Geology and archeology are themes that have always intrigued Pentz, and one sees these influences in the textured surfaces of his recent acrylic paintings. The images contain hints of landscape, stained objects, crumbling walls, earth stratification, weathered surfaces, or scars and gouges that tease at the imagination. Along with using a moody and evocative range of colours, Pentz exploits the accident by means of staining, scraping, wiping and re-painting. "I simply try to work in a way that allows things to happen," he says. Don Pentz received his MFA from the university of Regina, Saskatchewan and he has been exhibiting since 1967.
