Zalman Amit, Peer Gallery
I am an old timer CFA who first began visiting Nova Scotia in search of art (folk art in my case) and after a series of visits realised with something of a shock that the finest piece of art, by far, is Nova Scotia itself. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world and seeing it initially for short periods at a time created this yearning to see it again. It soon developed into an obsession. It
therefore became inevitable that as soon as we retired we moved to
the house that we have purchased in the meantime.
Nova Scotia did not simply influence my work — it created it. For many years I have dreamed of turning wooden objects but was never able to carry out this dream in a large city while busy with a complex career. As soon as the plan of moving to Nova Scotia got articulated I have included in it the dream of learning wood turning.
Thus, my entire career as a wood turner is Nova Scotia bound. Moving to Nova Scotia made it possible. I learned to turn in Nova Scotia. I set up my shop in Nova Scotia. In other words, moving to Nova Scotia is what made a wood turner out of me.
Zalman had a successful exhibit last fall at Peer Gallery.
